Blue Beacon Series - Galveston, TX (postponed)

With the continuing spread of COVID-19, our thoughts are with those who are ill from the virus, as well as those facing economic hardship. In order to ensure that everyone’s safety and health are a priority during this challenging time, we decided to postpone the Blue Beacon Series event in Galveston until later this year.

We are grateful for your interest in protecting our ocean and the amazing species who call our sanctuaries home, and we look forward to seeing you in Galveston soon.

The Blue Beacon Film Festival

The wonders that lie beneath our protected waters are hard for most people to see. Coral reefs flourishing with glowing life. Shipwrecks and cultural resources that tell our histories. Organisms that explain life on earth. From the far away waters of the Pacific to the Gulf of Mexico, sanctuaries and monuments are the essential network of protected waters owned by every American, and championed by us.

Explore these wondrous places through the power of film! This mini film festival will feature a series of short videos leading up to the local debut of Hidden Pacific, a pioneering film profiling the Pacific Ocean’s protected and remote marine national monuments and national wildlife refuge islands. Special guest, Ian Shive, director of Hidden Pacific and an award-winning filmmaker, photographer, and conservationist, will provide a special introduction to the film and answer questions from the audience.

Join the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation for a free mini film festival, hosted at Moody Garden’s MG 3D Theater, featuring movies that will take you across the Pacific and dive in your own backyard to Flower Garden Banks National Marine Sanctuary to explore marine protected areas and experience these special places from the sky, on land, and deep underwater.

About the Blue Beacon Series

The National Marine Sanctuary’s Blue Beacon Series aims to bring to light the ocean and Great Lakes’ biggest challenges through panels, lectures, and film screenings hosted around the country in order to build communities of support for marine protected areas. This series builds on the momentum of Capitol Hill Ocean Week, the nation’s premier conference on ocean and Great Lakes policy issues by bringing these important conversations into locally relevant contexts.
