With nearly two decades of experience working on the ocean, Azul’s Founder and Executive director, Marce Gutiérrez-Graudiņš, is one of a handful of Latinxs leading ocean conservation efforts across the country. After experiencing how mainstream ocean conservation efforts and campaigns were leaving Latinxs out, Marce founded Azul to engage her community to become marine conservation leaders.Having started her career in the commercial fishing and aquaculture fields, Marce is now committed to building a space to work differently around ocean protection, working in a way that honors Latinx heritage and continues the Latinx community legacy of ocean conservation. Recently, the UN Environmental Program published a paper she co-authored on the Environmental Justice impacts of plastic pollution. Marce currently serves on the Governing board of the California Coastal Conservancy as well as the advisory board for the Ocean Foundation. A native of Tijuana, Mexico, Marce now makes Southern California home.
